It’s that time of the day when you just want to leave behind all the pressures of life and work and peacefully go to sleep. You’ve been waiting for that moment all day. But does your bedroom provide the tranquility you’re looking for? Here are 6 interior design tips that will help Zen your bedroom retreat for enhanced harmony and relaxation.
1- Remove the clutter.
See those empty boxes, laundry basket, and knick-knacks scattered all around the room? You may not realize this, but these are contributing to your stress. Clutter can cause what’s called “visual noise”: a type of stressful visual distraction that has a similar effect to the excessive sound. Start off by clearing the clutter in your bedroom and you’ll notice the difference.
2- Use light paint colors for your walls.
Colors like peacock blue and apple green can make you cheerful and motivated. On the other hand, softer tones such as white, grey, shades of beige or pink beige will fill your bedroom with a tangible sense of restfulness. There are plenty of alternative ways to bring color into your room, though. Upholstery, windows, furniture lines, and wall art are all opportunities to do that!
3- Choose soft and natural lighting.
Exposing yourself to extremely bright lighting before bedtime can negatively affect the quality of your sleep. Avoid turning on your bedroom lights at least two hours before going to bed. To create a soothing nighttime atmosphere instead, place soft-glow lamps around your bedroom where light isn’t directly projected at you. You can also use scented candles to add extra coziness to your bedroom. But remember, blow them out before falling asleep! :)
4- Get blackout curtains.
If you enjoy sleeping in complete darkness, blackout curtains might be perfect for you. These curtains will not only block unwanted streetlights at night, but they’re particularly useful in blocking out daylight, allowing peaceful napping during the day. If dark curtains don’t go with your bedroom style, you can purchase blackout-liners to place on your existing curtains whenever you need them.
5- Make room for a reading nook.
Your bedroom is the only place to unwind and rejuvenate after a busy day, and there’s no better way to spend this time than with a good book. You can easily turn any empty corner in your bedroom into a reading nook that reflects your personal taste. Choose a comfy lounge chair or create your own window seat with nothing much than a fluffy pillow and some candles.
6- Keep your electronics out.
To ensure your bedroom is fully ZEN, you must keep all electronics out during the night. It’s not a good idea to stimulate your brain by checking your phone or watching your favorite TV show right before you go to bed. These are brain-straining activities that can distort the serenity of your sleep, so they better be put off till morning.
